Retired two-star Gen. Chi-Liang "Paul" Hsueh, who’s lived at senior housing in Sacramento’s Chinatown for 20 years, is considered one of the last living Kuomintang patriots who battled Chinese warlords, Chairman Mao’s Communist forces and the Japanese Imperial Army.
Chi-Liang "Paul" Hsueh’s day starts at 4:30 a.m. with oatmeal and exercise.
"Mao was the worst dictator – he killed people out of cruelty," Chi-Liang "Paul" Hsueh recalls in his Sacramento home. "Mao was very good at propaganda and a very good fighter." Hsueh retired as a two-star general in 1959.
