Very interesting article. It's a common feature of companies that I've worked with that they think what occupies a large proportion of their time and energy – e.g. rate-setting – is as important to their customers as it is to them.
There's nothing wrong with this: people work in organisations because at some level they are interested in and often excited by the nuts and bolts of what their organisations do. Your post and the source article are timely reminders that customers frequently don't share that enthusiasm.
flying back from tenerife on sunday i had a few hours layover at the madrid airport. i figured, what the hell, hopped on three subways to the center of the city, plaza del sol. there, i continued on foot to an unassuming raciones and tapas cafeteria for a most delicious plate of paella. it was well worth the side journey! paella is both stick to the ribs delicious and a subtly spiced delicacy.

Never before had Spanish democracy (since dictator Franco’s death in 1975) experienced such a grass-roots movement, without being affiliated to any political party and coming from different ideologies. The general miserable condition is what has joined the people together and facebook and twitter have simply done the rest. Hundreds of thousands have gone out to the street in Madrid, but also in Barcelona, Granada, Seville, Valencia, almost every Spanish city and even some demonstrations at Spanish embassies and consulates in several foreign cities, such as Berlin, London, Dublin, Montpellier, Mexico…"
The Syrian army vs. security: It’s being reported that defections among soldiers in the Syrian military are on the rise, thanks in part to the grisly nature of the deeds they’re being asked to carry out. So says Human Rights Watch researcher Nadim Houry: “…in Daraa, for example, we know there have been some defections and in some cases some soldiers have come under fire from the security forces for defecting.” This allegation isn’t new; security forces have reportedly turned their guns on soldiers unwilling to shoot at civilians for some time now.
