uhh…you do know that “the sun rising from the west” has nothing to do with orbital motion, but axial rotation of the planet? [e.g. the tilt of Uranus's rotation is 97.77 degrees, therefore the "sun rises from neither the west or east, but either north or south (i can't remember which one it is)]. Understand, that this does not invalidate what has been said in the Holy Quran, but invalidate this article's belief that this “Event” will occur on this exact day.

This Velazquez painting is famous for its perspective. They say that in this painting he captured even the air, the depth of the room. If you lighten it up you will see the pictures on the back wall of the room and the lamps hanging from the ceiling. Some think that it is the Western world's greatest painting because of its atmosphere. I do not understand this kind of thing at all. I do not believe that you can make either sense or money (or both) of this world without conflict, and so I love Goya.

I would agree that the painting is as uninteresting as a snapshot of a current day wealthy family lounging in their rooms before or after some outing. He captured the air all right. The air of privileged dullness. But what's not to understand? I guess you prefer the drama of the firing squad?
The Source article has been edited to acknowledge that someone involuntarily lost their job. The “maintains positions” is in tact because the eliminated position will be offset by a new position in the bookstore. Technically correct, even if it is no help to the person who is now collecting unemployment.

Great post and source article. I grew up in the same small town as “Randy Travis: Country Music's Finest,” and on my last visit was able to see a house my family built in the late 1700's. It still had bullet holes from General Sherman, a scratched pane of glass from generations of newly engaged daughters testing their diamonds and, believe it or not, 200 year old corn cobs used to insulate the walls. I'll bet “history” is close to us, it's just hard to see. (Mammoth. Ha.)
