flying back from tenerife on sunday i had a few hours layover at the madrid airport. i figured, what the hell, hopped on three subways to the center of the city, plaza del sol. there, i continued on foot to an unassuming raciones and tapas cafeteria for a most delicious plate of paella. it was well worth the side journey! paella is both stick to the ribs delicious and a subtly spiced delicacy.

The Source article has been edited to acknowledge that someone involuntarily lost their job. The “maintains positions” is in tact because the eliminated position will be offset by a new position in the bookstore. Technically correct, even if it is no help to the person who is now collecting unemployment.

I will give the Source credit for responding to the concerns of some of us in IT. The edited article is an improvement.

Very interesting article. It's a common feature of companies that I've worked with that they think what occupies a large proportion of their time and energy – e.g. rate-setting – is as important to their customers as it is to them.

The Freedom of Information Act win by various media organizations to have the emails disclosed resulted in 24,000 printed pages and 14,000 ema (visit source article)

We’ve been expecting a 7-inch Amazon tablet to hit this fall with a 10-inch version in the works as well. Being called simply the Amazon Kindle it will display content in color from a 7inch capacitive touch screen. What I found most disappointing about this news from the source article is that the new Kindle [...]

Via the PLoS blog Gobbledygook comes word of a possible tool for measuring author-level metrics.  Called ScienceCard, the system works from an open source article-level metrics API (application programming interface) from PLoS, and is a work in progress.  Participating authors can create a profile, which is then connected to scientific articles and the article-level metrics [...]
