Great post and source article. I grew up in the same small town as “Randy Travis: Country Music's Finest,” and on my last visit was able to see a house my family built in the late 1700's. It still had bullet holes from General Sherman, a scratched pane of glass from generations of newly engaged daughters testing their diamonds and, believe it or not, 200 year old corn cobs used to insulate the walls. I'll bet “history” is close to us, it's just hard to see. (Mammoth. Ha.)
I read that source article that wikipedia references and no where in that article does a food safety director from Tyson claim this. Costco accuses this is the reason that Tyson doesn’t supply meat to them and a Tyson spokesman doesn’t respond to these claims because doing so would be futile.
Very interesting article. It's a common feature of companies that I've worked with that they think what occupies a large proportion of their time and energy – e.g. rate-setting – is as important to their customers as it is to them.
There's nothing wrong with this: people work in organisations because at some level they are interested in and often excited by the nuts and bolts of what their organisations do. Your post and the source article are timely reminders that customers frequently don't share that enthusiasm.
